The biggest ever poultry processing plant has just been opened in the Philippines. Based in Santo Tomas, the plant has been opened through a joint venture between Cargill and Jollibee Foods.
The poultry processing plant will be run by Cargill Joy Poultry Meat Production Inc or C-Joy, a shortened version of the Cargill Jollibee Venture joint venture. Jollibee is currently the country’s largest food chain and has opened several branches in the Philippines as well as globally in places such as the Middle East, the US and Canada.
The poultry processing plant will be capable of processing 45 million chickens per year. Among its products will be the marinated poultry meat that will be used in Jollibee’s first food joints across the Philippines.

The launch of the giant food processing plant is another footprint in Cargill’s long relationship with the Philippines. The company first launched operations in the country in 1948 and has been active in the Philippines food sector ever since.
The C-Joy poultry meat processing plant will harness local and global technology and expertise to bring tasty and safe chicken products to the tables of many Filipino families.
The company has given contracts to the local farmers in Batangas province to supply live chickens to the facility, a move that will significantly boost market accessibility for these farmers as well as the economy of the region.
The new joint venture has also imposed strict biosecurity requirements aimed at controlling the safety of food at every production stage to ensure the processed meat products meet the highest quality standards.
The new facility is also expected to create thousands of jobs in the region.
